The Limited Release from Lagunitas, the Little Sumpin' Wild Ale is an interesting little brew. This Belgian-style pale ale is labeled as 72 ibu, and 8.85% abv. Fermented with a Westmalle yeast strain, this is going to be interesting...
The color is a very nice golden amber, and clear, with a fairly lively foam. The foam isn't super thick, but with a little swirl in the glass, it is easily revived.
The nose is just a bit hoppy, but full of floral hops rather than bitter hops. The aromas are also a bit piney, with a touch of tropical fruits. The nose is definitely reminding me of the Little Sumpin Sumpin.
The flavor is quite smooth, and unexpectedly so. The hops are definitely present in soft, floral form. There's an interesting sweetness about it, despite the high the high alcohol. The body is big, but very smooth. We are comparing to a Lagunitas version of Delirium Tremens.
Overall, a pretty nice drinking beer. Tasty, smooth, and well-made.
