Ommegang Rare Vos

This is a brew that I tried for the first time a few months back. At the time, however, I forgot to take any notes on the beer. Now I'm back at it, so see if I liked it or not.

Brewery Ommegang is one of the most interesting breweries in the U.S. Most people think that they are in Europe, because the majority of their brews are very Belgian. To the contrary, Ommegang is located in Cooperstown, NY.

This Rare Vos is described as a "belgian style amber" and as I've said before, that means very little to me. I'm much more of a beer drinker and beer enthusiast than a true beer geek (for now anyway). So the differences in styles, yeasts, or countries doesn't make a big difference for me.

It pours out a little darker than I would consider "amber" more like a light, reddish brown I'd say, maybe even a rust color. Plenty of foam arises, but the large, loose bubbles fade fairly quickly. There is a steady stream of bubbles, and a thin layer of foam throughout the duration of my beer.

It smells lightly hoppy, and just lightly malty, with maybe a touch of spiciness. On the palate though, it is nothing but enjoyable. It is perfectly balanced hops and malt, with just a little bit of extra body. It reminds me of a delicious lager, like Yuengling.

Its nice and flavorful, but not over-powering. Its easily light enough that I could drink several glasses of this delicious goodness.
