Dogfish Head Brewing - Palo Santo Marron

After seeing a recent video on BeerGeekNation.com, I just had to try this one again. I had it a few years ago, around the time it first came out, but I'm a new kind of beer drinker these days. Described on the bottle as "unfiltered, unfettered, and unprecedented" this immediately shows me who is boss. At 12% abv, I know I'm in for a heck of a beer.

It pours a thick, dark brown, almost cola color. The foam is thin, with a coffee or tan coloration. The foam dissipates fairly quickly, but some nice lacing lingers behind. It smells almost sweet of malt, with a little nutty or woody component as well. It tastes heavy, yet a little sweet too. It reminds me at first of the Three Philosophers without the fruit.

The beer is almost so thick I can chew on it. It's like a weird mix between a stout and a dark brown ale. I'm really enjoying this beer and I'm taking my time with it. Comes in 12oz bottles in four-packs, but I think four would be one too many for me.

Check out Dogfish.com too see more of their brews, and check back here soon too. I just picked up a bottle of the Theobroma, which I'm sure to enjoy soon.
