The newest addition from the team at Otter Creek and Wolaver's Brewing, this is the Alta Gracia Coffee Porter. First introduced as a seasonal brew, the Coffee Porter was very popular and was added to the year-round lineup.
Alta Gracia pours a very, very dark brown color. There's very little light shining through but it's still not quite black. The foam is a full finger thick and a lighter shade of khaki or vanilla. The foam fades and leaves behind a medium amount of lacing.
The aromas are a mix of coffee and espresso with maybe a little bit of vanilla or mocha too? I expected a sweeter smell from this porter, but it smells cleaner and drier, more like the nose of a coffee stout.
Flavors are obviously dominated by the rich coffee, but much like the nose it reminds me more of a stout than a sweeter style porter. The Alta Gracia is very smooth, almost silky, and easy to drink. It's not as bold as a big coffee stout or 'breakfast' stout, but definitely more dry and complex than what I typically think of in the average porter.
